A Safe Place to Talk About Body Image and Eating Disorders
This conversation is geared towards parents, teachers, and everyone who cares for a child of any age—from 6 to 56+!
Eating disorders and body image stresses are common, often misunderstood, and not always easy to recognize. Eating disorders can even hide in plain sight, so understanding them early can make a difference. What have you wondered about?
Registration is required! Sign up here. (Please note the $10 ticket includes a $10 Pennington’s gift card. More details below.)
Alli will start by clarifying a few common misunderstandings about body image and eating disorders. Then she’ll open up the conversation for your questions and curiosities about body image along with eating disorders and the conditions that often come with them. This is a safe place to ask any questions you might have. This event will be held in the bookstore’s new Community Room to give some privacy.
She’ll wrap up by signing her newest book, My Child Has an Eating Disorder: An Essential Guide for Parents of Kids, Teens, and Adults (Bloomsbury Academic). A limited number will be available for purchase at the event. See below for more details. Pennington’s will also have copies of MeaningFULL: 23 Life-Changing Stories of Conquering Dieting, Weight, and Body Image Issues (Unsolicited Press) on hand. Both books are filled with what deeply matters to Alli: compassion, understanding, choice, help, and hope—and this community gathering will be too.
One attendee will receive a complimentary signed copy of My Child Has an Eating Disorder!
Get the books: We will have a limited quantity of MeaningFULL for sale at the event. To guarantee your copy, you can place a special order to pick up at the shop or order from Bookshop.org here. Alli’s latest book, My Child Has an Eating Disorder, can be ordered through Bookshop.org here.
(Bookshop.org is a third-party service that ships direct to your door. We receive a percentage of sales whenever we’re set as “your shop” or when you use the affiliate links, above. This commission is similar to our in-store margin. Special orders in the shop are paid upon pickup, and you can use your gift card towards this purchase.)
About the registration fee: When you arrive, you’ll receive a $10 gift card (the full price of your ticket) that can be used for anything in the shop, including Alli’s books! Seats are limited to keep the conversation manageable and valuable for everyone. We want to ensure all seats are filled, and that’s the only reason we’re charging for tickets. Since space is limited, tickets are non-refundable and gift cards can only be picked up at the event. Alli and Pennington’s are hosting this event as a community service and are not profiting from ticket sales. If the ticket price prevents you from registering, please email hello@penningtonsbooks.com to inquire about a waived fee.
